they are difficult to sex when they are young but females get much larger than the males-constant spraying will also induce males to call/females do not-good luck

Damn...is that seriously the only way to sex them? Do females ever make noices at night? I was just wondering if they have pores etc like geckos?

Some females will make a distress call, but I don't know if that applies to REs. Other than waiting to hear a call, sometimes you can jusdge by size... but then again, they don't all grow at the same rate so you could easily see a male grow a little more quickly and be slightly larger than a female for a bit. It is just so difficult to determine sex, especially with REs. The breeder that I had gotten mine from has a personal observation theory that the males snouts appear a little pointier and the females more rounded and smooth. But again, it is only a theory. Unfortunately I guess I'm not of much help. I have two myself and they are obviously different in size by almost a 1/2 an inch... but then again, mine aren't exactly "normal" so to speak because the smaller one is also slightly deformed with an unusual flattened nose. (I raised them from tadpoles and I don't think the one was truly meant to survive but I pulled him/her through with extremely clean surroundings and LOTS of TLC)

If you can get a photo of them side by side and post it, someone MIGHT be able to help you a little more.

But in the end, to be positive, I'd wait to see if anyone starts singing.

Hi Guys,
Ive got a male myself (well people told me it was a male) I have attached the photo.

I have recently seen someone selling another red eye, but they do not know the sex, this is why Im here So I cannot make any predictions as I dont have them to compare if that makes sense?

Here is the male.

And this is her photo of her frog

Can anyone tell from the photos?

your best bet would to get as many as possible for the size of your tank-adults are fairly easy to sex but w/out 2 or more to compare it might be difficult if they are not full grown-my female is at 1 and half times bigger than my males-if you are trying to breed them it is better to have multiple males to stimulate calling and competition w/the males-hope this clarifies things for you

Its funny but one of my females calls as she is about to pounce on a cricket. Doesnt do it all the time but its pretty cool when she does do it.
