Looking for my first Ball Python

XxBuzkilxX Aug 11, 2012 05:29 PM

I went to our Rocky Mountain Reptile Expo today in Denver, Co and was unable to find my first Ball Python, but I guess I am being picky. I am looking for a 100% Het Clown Female Ball Python that is priced reasonably.

So, I went and emailed a breeder, but I am so nervous. What is it like to get a snake from a breeder that is not necessarily in your state? Do they ever reject giving you a snake? If they ship the snake to you, how do you get it and not have it sitting on your porch while you are at work? Just curious. Any answers would be awesome.

Can't wait to find my first Ball Python. I have everything ready and have done a lot of research.

Sincerely,
Buzkil

Well, breeders do sell at their discretion, so they can deny a sale. (At least responsible ones do. I would not sell to someone who had a blatant disregard for the animal care, as an example)

As far as shipping, most people use Fedex overnight. The snake should arrive packed up in a bag or deli cup in an insulated box with newspaper around it. A heat or cooling pack (depending on temps) may be used. Generally the package is delivered by 10:30am OR you can choose to have Fedex hold it at their hub and you can go pick it up. That is better on really hot days or if you cannot be home to receive the package.

Hope this helps.

You can look up reptile shipping videos on youtube to see how most people pack.

That is really go information...sorry to be new, but how do you tell UPS to not leave the package? message on the door? Also, how does one normally pay for the snake from a breeder that is out of state? Do they accept like checks, credit cards?

Thanks,
Buzkil

Most people pay with Paypal, though I have accepted Postal Money orders without a problem. That is up to the breeder.
UPS does not allow snakes to be shipped. It will be Fedex.

Basically, you tell the breeder you want the package to be held at the Fedex Depot. They will click that option when they print the shipping label and Fedex scanning the label tells them to leave the package there.
Just make sure both you and the breeder know what depot the snake is being shipped to. Haha.

No need to apologize for being new. Everyone starts somewhere, and questions are good.

Thanks so much for the information. It now makes sense and I feel better that I know a little more on how this works.

Thanks,
Buzkil
