A good gecko book

antonm Oct 05, 2003 09:23 PM

Whats a nice gecko book that has A LOT of geckos in it? It doesnt have to have much in depth info about each (though that would be awesome) but it would be more like an atlas like they have just for reptiles, well only on geckos. ALL geckos. Anyone seen such a book?

Not very informative, but almost what you want.

I do not know if this one is available in english:Rösler, H. 1995. Geckos der Welt. Alle Gattungen. Urania-Verlag,
Leipzig, Jena, Berlin, 256 pp
But its good...

Thanks! It seems like all the really good ones are in written in germany (I hear most rare gecko breeders are there too...). I also came across "Geckoes: Biology, Husbandry and Reproduction
Friedrich-Wilhelm Henkel, Wolfgang, Henkel Friedrich-Wilhelm, Wolfgan Schmidt". Looks like a very similar book and I saw a review on amazon saying its very indepth. Anyone have experience with it?

good book, you should get it

The one with the amelanistic castelnaui on the cover is the first edition. There's a second edition since september.

Yes. one of the best books, but limited number of species, not too much specific information and no easy direct links to the respecitve original papers.

www.geckoranch.com carries the english version of "geckos-all species in one book". I bought it from them a few days ago... good book.

Ok so it looks like its either the Geckoes by Henkel/Schmidt or the professional series (all geckos in one book) by the same people. Which one is newer do you know? I couldnt find dates but it seems the professional series is newer right? Anyway if anyone wants to part with theirs for a cheaper price let me know

All geckoes in ne book is newer, but theres more specific information -albeit on less pecies- in the other book.
In Germany a new edition of this book is avalibale since summer.
I do not know if this applies for the english version as well...
