Paradox Boas

vmax Aug 15, 2012 07:18 AM

Where are all the Paradox Boas? I mean the really funky looking snakes. Not snakes with a speckle or two. Mike Panic had two smokers that were litter mate brothers. One was named Patch. I'll be adding one to my collection when the right specimen comes along!

I see your Paradox boas have some of the same triangle side saddles as my adult hypo Paradox has and the baby sunglow Paradox I produced this year. I also noticed two of my hypos form this clutch also has the same saddle marking too. I would like to know if you have notice any saddles like these on any of your other boas form the same clutch as your Paradox boas. I don't own the two baby hypos any more but I will still be able to prove them out as they belong to two of my friends and one of them is a reptile vet to.

I did not even know my adult male hypo was a Paradox until after my albino female gave birth to my sunglow Paradox. I then researched the Paradox genetics a little and that is when I figured out my male hypo was a paradox and not just a dirty looking hypo to me. LOL

Here are some pictures of my 2 Paradox boas I have.

This is the male hypo when I first got him in 2008.

Damn, that snake is awesome!!! So unique! Thank you and everyone else for sharing!

newworldmorphs Aug 18, 2012 07:35 AM

WOW!!!! I dont think I have ever seen pics of this animal until now...and WOW!!! You have an amazing Paradox!!! That is definitely one of the most unique ones that I have seen. You still have it? Have you ever tried to breed it and see what its genetics are? What were its parents? I love knowing where these things came from though its not an intentionally reproduced trait. In any event.... AWESOME looking Paradox!!!!! Is that your only one? That thing is smoking!!

I have probably done the most breedings with kahl paradox boas, almost every combination you can try and never was able to reproduced them.

There random. So good luck.

I Havent been on here in a while and, to my surprise, this post was right on top when I got on the Forum! Its taken a few days to have time to sit down and write back and snap a few new pics but my love for the Paradox Boas made me compelled to do so!

I have been in love with and collecting them for the last 5 years now ever since seeing and getting one from Jeff Ronne ( a 3 year old girl back in 2008). What I learned back then from researching the Boas was that many breeders were actually getting them ( Paradox Albinos) in litters and feared they were " undesirable" to customers and they would be put down immediately. I am REALLY glad that that practice has changed and , ironically, has reversed to the point these animals are sought after and collected by some!!

With all of that said.. here are some pics of one of mine. I have had her from a little baby and grow a lll my boas "slow" and as pets, even if intending on breeding them. This one is an Orangasm 100% het Anery from a Bill Kirby X Frank Martin breeding exchange. I really lucked out on this girl as Bill "didnt care" for the black in her ( as she was in his part of the offspring deal) and sold her at the regular price of an Orangasm het Anery back at that time ( DONT WE ALL MISS THOSE DAYS ?!?!?!) Here are some pics of her:

Feel free to comment... I ll keep this post short and just put another one in the other reply. Thank you!

Hi Jamess,

Both of your Paradox boas are very nice I like the looks of your Orangasm het Anery one best. I have always loved the Paradox boa too for a long time. I remember when Ralph Davis posted pics of his boa he call "Freak boa" many years ago before they where called paradox boas. http://www.ralphdavisreptiles.com/collection/boas/paradox_snow_boa.asp

Can't wait to see what my little guy will look like when he's older and gets his adult colors.

Take care

Tom,

Thank you for the comments! The Orangasm girl has been a joy to watch grow up and color into the creamsicle Orange that she is now! I am excited to put her with an awesome male someday!

Its funny, I love the "Dirtier" one more, personally, but the Orangasm is the head turner for all of my friends and fellow breeders. I am hoping that when the Dirty one breeds she ends up being het for something...but who knows. Not knowing what her parents were really hurts so I'll have to throw a snow or moonglow in with her to figure it out tho I'd rather put them with my Top End girls.. which is why she is not a huge priority with breeding. Anywho...

Watching these Paradoxes grow up is awesome!!One thing is for sure... they never turn out how they started!! As you can see in all of the pictured examples on here. So you have a fun road ahead of you with your male! The black and dark colors always seem to pop out more and more over time. And not just because the scales are getting bigger.. the Black actually does increase over the years. Im still intrigued by that phenomenon!

I have seen the Davis video of his "Freak" Boa. Sad that she never reproduced. Not sure if he still has her but she was definitely an amazing animal when I saw her in that video! The fact that these animals are becoming more and more common and within all the different genetic makeups of the parents, its hard to think it'll ever be fully understood.

Til then... I'm glad theres others out there that enjoy them the way I do

Here is another Paradox I have had since a baby. I got her from Bill Corwin right after he got her in a trade from Peter Kahl. Bill told me over the phone he worried he would regret it someday ( selling her) so I had better pay her off quickly, lol. I sent him photos last year after buying more animals from Bill at the Daytona N.B.Expo and he confirmed....he absolutely regretted it! She has not been bred yet so I do not know if she is het for anything and there has always been a question over whether she is a Sunglow or Albino ( even in the ad Bill posted in here for her back in 2008) so I am still curious on how that will play out if she is ever bred. Maybe next year I will find out. Either way, she is definitely in the TOP3 of all of my boas. Here are pics :

Thanks for looking !!

That dirty girl is awesome!!!!!

newworldmorphs Aug 25, 2012 02:14 PM

Thank you!!! I am impressed with her every time she sheds and all those colors are still there!! They both have gotten darker with age.. one thing that I have noticed with the Paradoxes I have had since babies. All the "grey" and off colored scales pretty much all turned into black scales as they aged. These all over speckled Paradoxes dont pop up too much , Ive noticed.

Thanks for your thread and putting these back in the spotlight for a little bit
