African Dwarf frog and fish

zazzz Oct 05, 2003 10:32 PM

I just recently bought a 5 gallon aquarium and have never had any fish except goldfish. I have had my Dwarf frog for a while before I got the aquarium and am kind of sketchy about what fish it is compatible with. Also I don't know how to look after/do with a sick fish and don't want my froggie to get sick. I was also wonfering if dried bloodworms are supposed to sink? Much appericated if you can help me with my questions.

Bloodworms can carry many parasites, so, if you're worried about your frog getting sick I'd ditch them!

I hear that they (African Dwarf frogs) do much better alone, although I keep mine with guppies and tetra. The frogs are actually the most aggressive, but I'm going to separate my tank and keep them with the black tetras only just because of the water conditions. Mine have done fine up until now, but just make sure you only keep them with very pacifist fish if you do

I've seen them kept with Mollys too. But you have to watch because some fish may nip at your frogs. I'd think that keeping them alone would be best. That way you won't have to worry about stress, agression or illnesses.

I recommend you keep dwarf frogs in a species environment. As for the freeze dried blood worms, I wouldn’t feed them. The frogs will do best with a frozen or live food. I feed mine live black worms, chopped earth worms, and occasionally frozen blood worms. If you choose to feed frozen blood worms, I recommend Hikari.
