Thank you to those that responded to my ?'s about silkworms! (more)

Well, the 10 or so silkies I have left are either happily munching away on mulberry...or are building thier fuzzy little cocoons.
I can not get over the quantity of mulberry they go through! I wonder what the ratio is...what weight in mulberry they eat compared to the actual weight of the silkworm.

Anyway...I don't think I'll be getting any more. Not unless Zoe goes crazy for the actual moths.
He must not like the texture of them or something. Even when we baste them in repta-aide, he'll have no part of them. He carries on retching and gagging, spitting the silkies out over and over again. I did get two of them into the other day again, but that was it.
It was quite funny to watch my son rolling the silkworm in the repta-aide...just like a cob of corn being rolled in butter.

My daughter has become quite attached to the silkworms. She'll hold one while she watches TV, petting it, letting it feed on a mulberry leaf.
She actually said to me that she wishes her skin felt as soft as the silkies does.
Teenagers can be soooo emotional. She got all teary today when we were trying to feed Zoe. She was upset that he was "bruising" the silk worm, by biting down on it, but not eating it.

I don't know lele...you just might have an insect apprentice one of these days!
