Exo-Terra Fogger?

EastlandPets Oct 05, 2003 11:13 PM

I had bought an exo terra fogger for my PDFs before i had any frogs. when i bought the first frogs, the lady i bought them from told me not to use the fogger b/c it would kill the frogs (due to the amount of localized heat it generates at the top of the "fountain" however, i have had a tank set up at work with various baby turtles, firebelly toads and fiddler crabs and a fogger. the fogger is directly in the aquarium, within easy reach of all inhabitants. there have been no losses in this tank in the three months the fogger has been present. obviously i took the lady's advice, since i didn't want to risk 300 bucks worth of frogs. i now have the fogger rigged up in an intricate system such that the frogs aren't able to contact it. but is all this neccessary? second oppinions on the fogger's use w/pdfs?

thanks-
-kyle

I have been reluctant to use mine w/my DFP's for the same reason. When i tested mine before its use the container of water that i placed my fogger in got hot to the touch. the water in direct contact with the fogger is very hot to the touch. The risk that you run with a fogger in an open area where the frogs can get to it is the risk of boiling your animal. Though i have not tried my fogger in a moving body of water i wouldnt recommend using it in the same body of water that the frogs will be using.

I use my fogger my my whites tree frogs cage. i have hte fogger ina container of water that the frogs do not have access to and it works great in humidity maintaince as well as visual effects.

I also recommend having a separate, inaccessible body of water for the fogger. Besides making the water quite warm, I believe that the vibrations that the fogger sends through the water are not good for animals.

frogger88- what is the humidity in you white's tank with the fogger? I have to have a fan circulating the air in my whites tank at all times just to keep humidity at a decent level.
