I am a graduate student who is considering a project to finally sort out the genetics of blue tegus in relation to the three other species of tegu (especially whether it is truly a variation of T. merianae or a new species altogether), and I was wondering if there was a possibility that people might send me samples of shed tegu skins. Red, Argentine black and white, and gold tegu skins would all be welcome. DNA analysis has come a long way in the past few years, so now it can be completely non-invasive. If you are interested in helping, please let me know! Tegus have been my favorite lizard for a long time, ever since I had a gold tegu way back in junior high through high school. If you have any specific localities (such as Bert Langerwerf's from the lowest possible latitudes), that would be even better!
