Little Snake on the Prairie

KcTrader Sep 05, 2012 08:51 PM

Here are a couple of nice L.c.calligaster that hatched out a few weeks ago. Spent some time taking pictures, finally. These are possible heterozygous for amel and hypo. Not quite sure if my Hypo male or my amel male fathered these. Mom was het amel and I only produced a couple amels out of this clutch of 9. Thanks for looking.

Very nice! I prefer the looks of the normals over the other varieties.

I usually do to, but the hypo mutation really blows the normal's away. None posted didn't produce any this year.

It is possible both males fathered some offspring......

Sweet, one day I will have to keep this species. Sorry I missed you at the show, something crazy came up that I had to jump all over. I'm going to email you some pics now.

That's alright man, there was no venomous stuff there anyway. Was not a show to even brag about.

Very nice Prairies Jimmy. One of my favorites snakes. (those and moles). Both docile and easy going.

GONE FISHING!!!

Hey Gerard!! They are doing well. Eight of the nine hatched and I got 4.4 What are the odds of that!! Anyway, only one of the little buggers took an unscented pink. I am going to scent with a f/t wild mouse (worked VERY well for a buddy in VA on his moles) and after that it will be skink time. There are not a lot of lizards where these come from though, and I think baby deer mice are the main staple. I will tail them if need be. They are all real nice looking. I want to raise them up a bit and see which ones I am keeping and then I probably will move a few pairs. Next year I should have TONS of them.

Thanks Joe! I am starting to like these prairies more, all of them ate F/T first meal...Lovin' it! They are definitely well underated kings. Good luck with those moles, keep us updated on their progress.

Looks good Jimmy. I like that set up too!

Disclaimer: I do keep several snakes in pairs, and some in groups. However I realize that things can go wrong, and I have to keep a close eye on those groups, to be sure they are not being adversely affected by these living conditions. Also if one happens to eat it's cagemate, it is 100% my fault, and I know the risks in advance!
