Breeding Question...

Skyfire_1 Sep 07, 2012 06:00 PM

I have a 1.0 Spider and a 0.1 Albino Adult Ball Pythons. Is there anything special that I would need to do for Ball Pythons to better the chances of them breeding, such as cooling down for a period before breeding?

Or is there a certain time of the year that they will breed more readily than another time of yeear?

Thanks...

Well that's a pretty loaded question. With a long answer. You need to read about the breeding process and figure out what to do step by step. There's a lot of material out there. For me it at first it seems impossible to find. And then found a video that explained a lot, but I was still lost. You just have to read and watch as many videos as you can and it'll all come together.

This is my favorite site for any quick referencing I need to do in the middle season. http://www.vmsherp.com/LCBreedingBalls.htm

Also YouTube search:
Ralph Davis
J Kobylka
MABalls
And
Brian Gundy

They all have really informative videos. When you're new it's really hard to see for yourself key signs, but if and when you pick up on them they can really tell you whats going on with your females cycle. I keep this image on my phone as reference for what the different signals mean.

Hope this gets you started. Other than that don't think one source will give you what you need. Read everything you can find about breeding ball pythons and find a forum that you like and read some more. As a new breeder myself I've found that it's harder to get people to help you until after you somewhat understand the process. Once you understand a little better and can ask more direct questions the community is really good and will help in anyway they can.

Hope this helps

READ ....

ALOT....

and ask questions....(in person )(local breeders)

...start with old school ....read..."breeding and keeping boas and pythons"....I am at a blank for the author's name at this momment......((people will say it's old...get NEW books...her's a hint...the people that wrote the 'new' books...read the old book...bred snakes...THEN wrote the new books....new ones didn't teach me a thing hardly above the old books.....just oretty colored worm pics is all...

......yea...read it again then when you finish the first time....

.....then go buy the 'Barker' books....

I think you're thinking of the Richard Ross book! When I got started, that WAS the bible!

yes that's it.....it has no pretty morph pics...they didn't exist yet....it has educational pics and facts and it will teach you all you need for any snake breeding attempts....read it...then repeat....new books are cute and some are cool....but they will teach you little new stuff....and as said...Ross taught the new authors....

then buy the Barker book on Australian pythons....

then buy others....I have alot of books....alot....and I actually read just a couple.....
