She dug a hole

ecb Oct 06, 2003 06:02 AM

No a shallow one like the height of her body, but as far down as the substrate went, right next to her food dish.
I tried to feed her a pinkie last ngiht, it ended up in the fish pond
I sent one of the kids upstairs to get her, and they said she was hard to get bvecause she was laying on the ground (something she never does) and she came down with dirt stuck to her.
IT was not till I went up to put her back IN that I saw the hole in the dirt.
The kids say she had her butt near the hole, but she is not lumpy yet, so I do not know (being new to this and all)

She is diggin up the entire tank
I cam home to 2 plants uprooted, and 4 holes (mostly to the gravel I have as drainage)
The fish pond is FILTHY, and her head is crusted with dirt even though I cannot find any eggs in the substrate (she has NOT gotten lumpy yet, and I can feel hard little lumps in her, but only 4 of them)

LOL! Looks like you have a digger! Some of these guys love to dig. Sometimes it's just a phase but some just won't stop!

I guess this means she is feeling better?
I M gonna need a bigger fish pond
I M cleaning the filter almost every other day
with the one hole I was excited, she was gonna drop her eggs, I was not gonna have to worry about her, life would be good
then I went home last night and I was trying to replant the pineapple plant, and releveling the food dish
U will see when I post the pics, it was a MESS ( I left most of the holes)

I know you have a beautiful all-natural setup, but maybe you could put a dishwash tub, or sweater box filled with moist peat or coir? Give her a relatively small, but deep space in which to dig?
It may not look great in your vivarium, but it will beat scooping dirt out of your water area.
I sure do hope she is doing "exploratory digging"

I think she is exploring
the two holes near the food dish seem to be her favorites, she redug them
I now have the fogger in the pond, and set to 90 min each am and pm
looks NEAT going in the holes against the glass
and I FINALLY got the replacement diaphragm so it is very foggy now
I will be draining it every weekend again, I like that
