What are the Mosaic Florida morphs?

Rake Sep 11, 2012 03:31 PM

I'm wondering what variations there are on the Mosaic Florida. I know there are Albino Mosaic's, and Anery Mosaic's, but that's it. Are there any more out there that I haven't seen yet? Hypo Mosaic or Snow Mosaic or Whiteside Mosaic or whatever? To my knowledge they aren't too common or sought after, which is why I'm thinking that the three versions I know of could be all of them.

I am sure some florida-fans like Rainer can answer your question.

I've seen hypos advertised on KS a time or two in the past, but you're right, not too much else. The hypos look the nicest in my opinion.

Rainer did produce some triple hets for Peabino Mosaic a couple years ago. I, among whomever else out there, picked up some. Now, a couple years later, these snakes should all be about breeding size & age. Mine is. Notice I said "is", rather than "are". Unfortunately I lost 2 out of my 3, in my big bbq last year, so all I have is a lone male that's about 3-4 feet. I would imagine all of these other clutchmates Rainer produced and sold should be producing some new visuals any season now. I also don't think Rainer's very interested in working with them much anymore...

I'm pretty sure Gourmet Rodent led the initial charge on these and really popularized them.

I've seen Lavenders, Hypos, Amels and Anery mosaics.
Mostly all from Jeff S.

Male

Female with a striped male

A hatchling that may, or may not be T-Neg?

I think there is a lot of potential with this morph, especially when combined with others. I don't know if a snow would look so great, because the pattern would be subdued in the white color.

Disclaimer: I do keep several snakes in pairs, and some in groups. However I realize that things can go wrong, and I have to keep a close eye on those groups, to be sure they are not being adversely affected by these living conditions. Also if one happens to eat it's cagemate, it is 100% my fault, and I know the risks in advance!

Holy cow, that hatchling is gorgeous! That's MUCH prettier then the Albino Mosaic's I've seen pics of elsewhere. Does it really look that purple? Will it retain the vibrancy of those colors into adulthood?

It's starting to piss me off that these guys get no respect.

GerardS Sep 11, 2012 06:32 PM

Yeah, Jorge did good with that one this year. I think it makes the different morphs the best they can be. It makes me like them, a little.

Jorge,
I am not sure but I imagine that is a T neg /lav double homozygot. It looks to much like a T neg to be a lavender. But what is confusing is the eyes are lavender. Which is weird because one would think a double homo T neg would still be with red eyes. So to be honest i am a bit baffled by this one.

Did it come from parents that were het lav and het T neg?
Or did that come from my mystery het Floridas I sold a few years back?

So what are your plans for that hatchling? Willing to sell him/her?

a153fish Sep 12, 2012 03:51 PM

>>So what are your plans for that hatchling? Willing to sell him/her?

First I need to prove him out to see if he is T-Meg or not. But I will also hereby him back to his Mom to make some more. Good thing he is a male, that way I can breed him to several females.

Do have a striped Florida king (only one that I have seen), think it would be an intersting cross with a Florida mosaic. Will have to post pics.

How many nuns could a nunchuck chuck if a nunchuck could chuck a nun?

Bluerosy Sep 11, 2012 07:44 PM

Yep, Brawley is correct. i don't work with the mosaic trait much anymore. Gormet rodent had hypos, lavs, anery and axanthics. Not sure if there are any snows or ghost Mosiacs but i imagine by now (2012) there are.

It is a shame about the mosaics. Because they were a new morph but Bill brant and company sold off the original morphs they produced to a broker in Calif who marketed them for $69. This was from the start. That cheapened the future projects with Mosaics and the time and money for a breeder to invest in creating new multi homozygots with the Mosaic trait.

Now i still love the Mosaic trait. Especially the short heads and their shy demeanor (they like to hide under the shavings and are not agreesive feeders). It is just that anything with Mosaic in it is only worth about $50. now. It is a shame really.

Well, a153fish has an interesting and pretty animal there, and Jeff S. has an Anery listed for $125 shipping right now (that's the one that got me thinking about this), and Kevin E. has an Albino for $85 shipping as well, so maybe there is hope yet?

In an ideal world I would get hold of all of these animals and become the new Mosaic guy, as everyone else seems to have abandoned them. Key word being ideal.

I don't like the lavender stock that was introduced by Gourmet Rodent. It looks like it has some strong Cal king influence.

"I don't like the lavender stock that was introduced by Gourmet Rodent. It looks like it has some strong Cal king influence"

I'm shocked! You mean there are breeders that would actually knowingly steal a genetic trait from one type of snake, then introduce it into another totally different type of snake to market them as a very specific subspecies???...
