Mouse vs Rat for nutritional value

snakebuz Sep 17, 2012 02:24 PM

Ok. We see it all the time, someone trying to get their Hondo to switch to rats. My question is....is the 35 gram rat as nutritionally complete as a full grown mouse of the same weight?
I have always fed my snakes that will not get to medium to full size rat eating size the mice rather than a young rat. I have always felt that the same size mouse has had moch longer to build calcium than the rat. Does anyone have any data that might answer this question? If I was breeding them again, I could see holding out for rats as they are way less smelly than mice. But hopefully now that there are many breeders out there to get frozen rats and mice from, this is no longer a concern. Any ideas or data? Thanks in advance.
