Love those striped floridana too. Think it would make an interesting cross with a Florida mosaic.

Yes, and who brought you there and showed them to you and told you to buy them?

Yes, Rainer showed them to me and we were going to go in on some but we both decided not to...lol

Rainer wanted me to have something cool to post here instead of all of those ugly Mexicana...hahahaha

Very nice, Scott!

What is really ironic is that a friend of mine showed me an old photo of a specimen he captured that was EXACLY like these recent stripers. He captured his in Davie, Florida back in 1984........never to be seen again until just recently like the ones you have there...

I have a pic of it in my files that I'll post later on.....

Yeah, there are very few of those in the hobby for sure, Scott. I'll email him and ask if he wouldn't mind me posting his old pic of the striper. He never bred it, so they definitely didn't originate from his wild-caught floridana. It had the two thin dorsal side stripes and ALL!

Not the greatest photo, but this was a long while ago..LOL!

My friend, Frank Menser captured this snake in what used to be extreme western Broward county (Hiatus Rd.) in some orange groves that have been gone for many years now. He said he captured it very early in the year, and he arrived at Mat Ingler's Groves at dawn and started to hunt at first light.

This thing is a several foot long young adult carbon copy of yours.....

cheers, ~Doug

A friend of mine kept this subadult we found during the spring. He has another similar looking snake from the same spot:

Great shot of very nice striper, Doug. Years ago Florida stripers seem to be at all the rep shows, seems they have kind of lost the trend? It's nice to see them again. Would have been great if your friend kept the striper and bred to it later. Thanks Doug for showing this pic!

Here's one I found on Peter Jolles' website...
He produced it from a SC/Edisto Island female X SC male....

That is nice, John. I have a few pictures of that exact snake, except its black and white in them. That is different than the striped Eastern I'm talking about. The one I'm talking about has two narrow light stripes just like the floridana.

Bluerosy Sep 21, 2012 12:17 AM

That snake is bad as$!

SDeFriez Sep 22, 2012 02:12 PM
