I bought a 50lb. bag of playsand from home deopt (is this ok to use as a substrate?)...and can i feed the drickets right on it or should i feed him in a seperate cage?

it would be best, particularly if youre beardie is little, to feed the crix in a separate enclosure. that way therse no risk he'll get a mouthful of sand when going after a cricket and decreases the possibility of impaction. if the playsand it silica free childrens-playsand, thats the best available if you really want to use sand.

washed children's playsand is alrighy for older dragons at least 10" long. For younger dragons (or smaller ones) it is best to use just papertowel, newsprint or butcher's paper till they are older.
It is best to feed in another container or put down some sort of mat to prevent accidental injestion of sand with crickets.
