A Gifted Collection

Jlassiter Sep 21, 2012 07:57 PM

A guy I know wanted to move out his small collection and asked if I wanted his 3 year old kings......
I gladly accepted them but I was amazed that one of them was HUGE, especially for being just three.....

1.1 Goini X Floridana
1.1 Blaze Phase Goini
1.0 Splendida

And yes only 3 years old for this gigantic male.....

Yep...my only hybrids...
but I need to clarify....I just did some digging in some old photos and posts on another forum...

That tan/orange solid looking one is a Hypo Blaze goini x
floridana.

Here it is as a hatchling:

Here it is at a year old:

I think the other 3 are all goini, but I am not sure....
All those Southeastern get "muddy" looking as adults....

Jassiter,
Are you sure the Blaze x FL is a cross. Because I never heafrd of anyone breeding a Floridana to a Blaze phase before.

Is it possible that maybe he confused you about the other two being FL x goini crosses?

I am not saying the FL x Blaze cross never happened. But looking at the pics the Blaze looks like a Blaze. Now, there are the hypo brooks out there which are FL x goini. But they are not to be confused with the "blaze phase" which is a different trait from the hypo.

I know you already know all this i am just typing for clarification for others.

Beisdes isn't the Blaze also referred to as a Hyperythristic?

here is an old post of Hypo x FLoridana pics:

Tom Stevens did in 2009.
He bred a Hypo Floridana (Brooksi) to a Blaze Phase Goini.
That orange one emerged.

The whole blaze thing is up in the air, too. I don't think they are goini, just a bunch of crossed up stuff, that's all.

Maybe....But wild goini are crossed up stuff too....lol

They (floridana, brooksi, sticticeps, getula, meansi, goini) are all L. getula according to Burbrink et al 2009...haha

What happened to going by phenotype?
Now it's all about DNA?
Those smart scientists will finally figure out all snakes are related.....duh!....lol
I thought that was the reason for species and subspecies below them.....

I don't think so, there a different animals in Florida, again, my opinion. The blaze don't look anything like kings from that area. I'm just thinking out loud, not knocking you. I also don't think all snakes are related, some maybe closer than people think but no way they are all from one.

Nice splendida!

They are actually widespread, but the ones with the most yellow and smaller black blotches are typically found in that area.

I have one from south of Alpine, TX that looks completely different. Lots of black on the sides and less yellow.

Then you've seen pics of the ones from down in my area.....
