Question on my female veiled chameleon

mystical_orca Oct 06, 2003 10:35 AM

I've noticed that Amelia has been showing her robin's egg blue colors for a little while now while stalking the ground so I did the usual and got her nest ready. She hasn't seemed to lay any eggs as of yet, but suddenly last night she turned dark brown with green and bold orange spots. This is the first time she has ever turned this color! I know this is a normal coloring for female veileds but she is the only one in her cage and she seems to be snapping at anything and everything that goes near her cage.
My question is, I thought they showed this color when they are not interested in mating with a nearby male and also when they are pregnant. Since she's doign this and she is by herself, should I be concerned about her being stressed about something?

How long has it been since she started showing receptive colors? It could just be that she is no longer receptive and that the eggs inside of her have developed to the point where even though they aren't fertile they could be making her feel very uncomfortable. Shelly was very moody a couple of days before she laid her eggs. she even went on a couple of hunger strikes too. I wouldn't be overly concerned as long as it doesn't last very long.

She's had her receptive colors for about a month now and then over the weekend she suddenly had her darker colors and was pretty darn cranky a few days ago. She never acts like that so I was getting nervous. When I checked on her yesterday she had the same black/brown base w/ yellow and green spots only it wasn't as bold as the weekend. she ate like a horse yesterday and has been doing her bathroom business with no apparent problems, so I'm just nervous as to if she may be starting to have an egg problem. Besides having her nest ready is there anything else I can do to help her out if an egg problem is the case?

if she becomes egg-bound and it's threatening her health there is a drug you get from the vet, i think it's called potosen, that can hurry the eggs out. sorry i don't have more info than that. anyone have exp with an egg-bound cham?
