Is my "normal" actually yellow-belly?

ThrowerofStones Sep 26, 2012 06:15 PM

So this is probably something every ball python owner does when he first becomes interested in the wide world of ball python morphs and begins to wonder, "Could my starter python actually be special!?!", but I can't help myself, and I am by no means expert enough to know without asking.

After looking at my snake, reading about yellowbellies, looking at my snake, reading about them, etc, etc repeat several times I suddenly had the sneaking suspicion it might just be. Following http://[url ban]/forums/showthread.php?45579-Hunters-Guide-To-The-Morphs-Het-Ivory I could identify every feature a yellow belly is supposed to have, but being a complete newbie am unsure if the "amounts" are enough. Her head has a faint yellow mark, but is is distinct enough? She has lots of yellow on her, but is it enough? Her back has blushing, but is it "a lot" of it? She has flames on some parts of her pattern, but are they big enough? She has granite speckling all along her stomach, but to be honest I have a hard time understanding if I am actually seeing what they are looking for or if they are referring to something else.

So in light of that, I was hoping that some of you could help me ID her as a plain normal or a yellow belly.

Background info, I bought her from a local PetSmart a year ago as a juvenile, so presumably she's around a year and a half or so. She's currently 1.089 kilos.

Faint yellow mark on head - it's more distinct in the dark, but then again I may be fooling myself.

Various places of blushing on her back.

Flames? Maybe, but not big ones.

Speckling on her stomach seems pretty definitive... if I am IDing the right thing.

A complete view:

Also she has some very much brighter yellow spots on her spinal near her tail which are several shades brighter than the rest of her base color. Not sure if this indicates anything at all, but thought I'd mention it as long as I was nitpicking her to bits.

Anyways, feel free to tell me I'm stupid and over-analyzing my perfectly average normal, but I love her and can't help it! And if she's a yellow belly, all the better!

She is indeed a normal and not a YB.

That is a very nice looking female. But I too would guess that it is a very pretty normal. Early on for me it was impossible to see all the differences between the morphs, I just couldn't see the differences between many of the more subtle morphs, i really could not understand the big fuss over so many very similar looking snakes, but after staring at thousands of snakes and over analyzing everything the differences become much more clear. Enjoy!
