So I am used to shipping babies (7 x 7 x 7 box)
I am about to ship out an adult female in a `6 x 12 x 8 box and just wondered one thing.
One or two heat packs?
Thanks.

That was supposed to say 16 x 12 x 8...not 6.
This time of year a heat pack is usually not needed. If lows are 60 or above a heat pack is not necessary.

The lows around here have been 50's and 40's. I live in CT.
What is the low at the destination? If a heat pack is needed I have never used more than 1, 40hr heat pack per box. Never had a problem.

I've been struggling with heat pack/no heat pack lately. Highs are in the 80's and low in the 40's. I figure a few hours in the 40's would be better than any time in the high 90's. I've been using one well wrapped heat pack with an extra newspaper layer between the pack which is securely taped to the bottom of the lid and the snake in case the box gets flopped and the snake is sitting on the heat pack. Not claiming to be an expert but that’s the best I’ve thought of so far for this in-between season.

If its hot in the departure city and cold in the arrival city, then just add more "mass" to the box. Gel packs, etc. Being able to hold thermal mass will mitigate the drop in temps as the box nears its destination.
whatever you decide, if you use a heat pack, it is crucial the snake cannot come into bodily contact with it. you can lose a snake in shipping if it does.
