my last cal king clutch of the year...

mikefedzen Oct 01, 2012 07:24 PM

this is clutch #5 of cal kings to hatch this year, all five clutches were fathered by the same albino banded male. Some babies from different clutches look identical, and some look completely different, I love it.
But this clutch came from a high white cal king female that was supposed to be het albino, it took her a month longer than the other females to lay eggs, not sure why, she had 2 egg boxes to choose from and I was beginning to think they were stuck in her. But she eventually did lay 7 eggs that looked good.

Those eggs started hatching the other day.

The first 4 that popped their heads out were black, so then I was doubting the mother of the clutch was het. Then #5 pipped and took away those doubts.

Then #5 came and took away those doubts.

Also ended up getting this video with my phone of #5 emerging if anyone wants to see that I put it on youtube.

Group shot.

#5 was actually the only weird looking one out of the clutch, the rest are just banded. One of the bandeds has a little bit more white than the others, but nothing really spectacular, I was hoping for some high whites but any babies are better than no babies!
Ended up with 4 black and white bandeds, 2 albino banded and the albino striped aberrant one.

Here's the spread out group shot.

And here's the albino striped from the Mosaic's 2nd clutch post shed. He has a good bit of little breaks in his stripe, but has a sister from the 1st clutch that has a stripe with zero breaks.

I have one more clutch of mexican milk snake eggs due to hatch out soon, then I (like the rest of you I'm sure) can't wait to see more eggs next year!

Great looking clutch, Mike! Better luck next year on the high whites. Next year can be completely different.
