HELP ! TEGU INJURIES.

BRONXBOY Oct 06, 2003 11:33 AM

CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO HELP MY TEGU SHED HIS SKIN AT THE TIP OF HIS TAIL? I WANTED TO TRY AND TAKE IT OFF MYSELF BUT IT IS SO THIN AND NARROW AT THE TIP OF THE TAIL, I'M AFRAID OF BREAKING IT.
ALSO WHAT IS THE BEST THING TO USE ON A BURN? I DIDN'T REALIZE HOW HIGH THESE TEGUS CAN JUMP AND IT JUMPED AND GRABBED ONTO THE UV FLUORESCENT SPIRAL BULB I HAVE ON THE TOP OF IT'S CAGE.
PLEASE HELP.

Shedding on the tail is always a pain is seems, does you Tegu have an out-of shape tailtip (Their born with this occasionally, its normal)? If so, let the shed sit, eventually your Tegu will split the shed over the out-of shape area. Give your Tegu a bath, a little above lukewarm, everyday, and make sure its getting Fruit.

On burns, I'm sure someone else will post their thoughts on this, but as along as the burn isn't oozing or has missing scales, I think all you need is an Anti-Biotic.

To aid in shedding give luke warm bathes and provide a hide box filled with damp bedding. I use a Rummermaid (not clear) box with a hole cut in it and that recycled paper bedding for this. It simulates a humid/damp and dark burrow. This will help soften the dear skin.

If your animal has a burn got to the vet. Someone on here can help you find a good herp vet near you.
