URGENT HR511 UPDATE
THIS IS THE BILL TO FEDERALLY BAN THE RETICULATED PYTHON, GREEN ANACONDA, AMETHYSTINE PYTHON
AND ALL REDTAIL BOAS
Presently there is a bill HR511 written by Congressman Thomas Rooney (R) of Florida to Federally outlaw the above snakes.
There is no scientific evidence that these snakes pose a human or environmental danger. What we do know is that the breeding and selling of these snakes generates between 74 and 102 million dollars each year, all by small family run businesses. This does not take into account the bigger number of support dollars the industry as a whole generates in association with these sales. In a time of economic weakness for our country we have to be the watchdogs for our politicians and make sure, even though it may seem obvious, that killing jobs and ruining businesses can bankrupt an already fragile economy.

You might be shocked to know that most of the sponsors of this bill are Florida Politicians from both sides of the isle, many of whom are up for re-election.

If you have an interest in reptiles and/or if you feel that giving up civil liberties for a fabricated threat is bad for our economy then here's what you can do.
1) Call and respectfully voice your opposition to HR511-key points to make include:
There is no scientific evidence that by including the Reticulated Python, the Amethystine Python,the Green Anaconda, and the Redtailed Boa on the injurious livestock list we can stop any threat to humans or to the environment.

2)These snakes represent between 5%-7% of the reptile industry sales. This means that overnight thousands of small family owned businesses will be shut down. These same businesses generate approx. 100 million dollars a year for the US economy. The side effects of the support products that will also lose money is even more damaging. If passed this bill will take 1.2 Billion dollars out of the US economy in the next 10 years, can we afford that?

3)Being an election year the reptile community, which numbers over 13 million, is very interested in seeing who is sponsoring a radical bill to take our rights away to owning and breeding reptiles.

4) COME NOVEMBER please do not vote along party lines just because you are registered Democrat or Republican. Check to be sure you know what the position of your candidate has on liberty robbing bills like HR511.
