may want a borneo blood

kurma Oct 06, 2003 12:38 PM

Hello,
I never really gotten in to snakes I wasn't able to have them as kids and now my wife don't liek then, always been a chelonian guy yet I like all herps. I thought it woul dbe nice to have one snake a smaller one and I liek pythons, I think borneo bloods are great they are smaller and very thick and I like the dark one. So do they get over4', what size cage does a hatchling and an adult need. What a good place to learn more and what are good breeders, also are the the same as other bloods as far as care goes? I've heald a hatchling red blood once it was like no other snake I've ever held kinda just flopped down it couldn't hold it selve up. Very weird is that a adult thing too just cause they aren't meant to be off the ground I'm guessing?
Thanks
X

Borneo often grow over 4ft. Here's my 2.5 year old male and he's 5ft. If you like them dark, you can look at black short-tail python, they are darker then borneo and grow a bit smaller. Blood and short-tail require the same care, exept for the size of the tank. Hatchling do well un rubermaid as they need hight humidity. They're not the really the best snake for a first one but if you do lots of reseach on them, it should be fine. Be sure to get a cb baby. Mine don't like to be handle, but don't mind been out of the tank when most of their body lenght is supported. Don't know of any breeder since i'm not from USA.

Good luck!

Size is going to be dependent not only on regional variations, but also by quality of care. The picture here is a male borneo that is pushing 6ft and weighs in at 25lbs. He is very tame and I have been using him at shows for several years. If you are looking for small, the sumatran black bloods do stay much smaller, but borneos still have the ability to go up to and over 6ft.
