Earthquake in Maine... OT

gerryg Oct 16, 2012 06:44 PM

Sorry for treating this like Twitter but we just had a 4.5 quake centered about 20 miles from me... first thought my furnace was in the process of blowing up so I ran down to the basement... to be at the center of the blast I guess... furnace is dead quite, so I'm wondering wtf? Sonic boom perhaps? I turn on the radio and right of the bat it's news of the quake... 4.5 isn't much... but here in Maine it's by far the biggest in my 53 years... freaking house was actually shaking! Not the typical barely felt shaking from quakes here in Maine but actual "my walls are moving". Sort of cool.

Pretty crazy. We had a few here in MD over the last couple years. Make sure you check real good for stress cracks in the foundation and around the house. Many houses around my area had them after the last one.
