Yuma kings

RossPadilla Oct 18, 2012 09:15 AM

This pair was collected in June of this year near El Centro CA. Shortly after, they were introduced and copulation occurred. They were then given to one of my good friends to hold until he could deliver them to the original collector's buddy. First up is the female.

The male was amazingly dark for a Yuma morph.

Meanwhile, the female laid 4 eggs while in the care of my friend. He incubated the eggs and was promised a pair for his troubles. All 4 hatched. 1 male and 3 females. First up are the females.

The male came out pretty dark. Maybe not as dark as the dad, but still very dark.

Definitely a very cool locality.

Wow ! Beautiful.

But the resemblence to the Grease Kings is confusing to me still though.

I think they look very similar as well... sort of like the yuma kings are the desert phase version of the LB grease kings. I know thats not the case, they just look like it.

I have a pair of grease kings and my male looks very much like the the females posted, but with yellow instead of white.

RossPadilla Oct 18, 2012 02:23 PM

Yes, they are very similar to Grease kings. There's too much attacking and trolling on this forum. If anyone ever wants to hear my opinion about the Yuma king, ask me on my forum. At least there, we all have to respect each other.

Another question.

El Centro is a pretty desolate dry and HOT place. Is it not? How did your friend find these? Night driving? Any story on how they were found?
-----

RossPadilla Oct 18, 2012 02:32 PM

Yeah, its the middle of the desert. All I really know is that they were found in the night roadcruising in June. A more detailed report on how they were found and where would be very interesting, but that information never reached me.

It's been a long time since it was all desert around El Centro. It is all irrigated cropland now with overgown canals all over the place. Plenty of cover for rodents and reptiles.

You're right, I was thinking of something else.

I hear ya and I know. But that is why i asked where around El centro the kings came from. I drove that road from borrego to el centro at night before. It was along that same road south of Borrego that i found the first anerythristic Rosy boas back in the early 80's.

No problem. I'm glad you enjoyed seeing pictures of them, Dennis. I took the pictures of the babies, they were really cool to see in person. Some had darker than normal belly patterns, which is what you sometimes see in hypermelanistic kings.
