so, let me ask you all one question, what has done more damage to the reptile industry - the proposed legislation that Nelson proposed that did not pass OR the continued economic trouble?I myself have seen prices drop for ball pythons about 50% in the last year.
I bought a male lesser in May 2011 at the going price of $300. Now, I'm luck if I can find a buyer for a male lesser at $150. Similar drops have occurred across the board, in a way that can't be just due to natural price drops as a morph becomes more common.
As far as I can tell, the industry is being hit harder and money taken out from continued economic trouble more than regulations on Burms, rocks, and yellow anacondas. People are struggling and not able to afford to put money into the hobby. New buyers are not coming in to the market in a way that we need to sustain the growth and support the prices.
However, while the economy continues to be stagnant for the people involved in the hobby, giant corporations like GE make record profits of $3.2 BILLION from just the 3 months from July to September - and yet they pay NO taxes. Other large corporations are making record profits and they are paying their CEO's $20-50 Million a year while they lay off people and ship jobs overseas to China.
I'd say that is affecting the industry - and the ability of the average small snake breeder to make a little in the hobby they love - in a vastly more devastating way than Bill Nelson.
My point is not to say that Bill Nelson is a great guy, but that the things that negatively affect the industry are much more diverse than one guy.
