Question For Rainer

Saracen Nov 02, 2012 04:04 AM

Hi Rainer,

I have the following pair of Brookes that I believe originated from you.

Male..Het Pewter..Garden Line, carrying Jelly and Axanthic

Female..Light Phase Peanut Butter ( Hypo )

I have been informed that these are from your Swampline.

The information on the male is he is Garden Line carrying Jelly and Axanthic and also Whitesided he currently weighs 1350 grms and is 2010

The female information is that she has Whitesided also. She currently weighs 750 grms and is a 2011.

Can you unravel all the above into laymans terms please. I intend cooling these and then putting them together, what can I expect hatcling wise from the pairing?

I do not understand the Greenline and Swampline aspect of these so could you possibly explain. Also does this mean they are both het axanthic whitesided?

John

I don't know what the Garden line is. Maybe it came from CBI?

The Swampland line is were the pewter orginated out of. I should mention that today through unfortunate cicumstances, there are no Pewters in existence. So the only hope is the swampland line to reproduce the pewter.

I posted the history here before and i had pictures of the original clutch accompaning the posts to show the variety or the first clucth and the second clucth the following year.. But I deleted the pics. Looking back now i should have kept those darn pics.

Originally i sent a Peanut butter male to a breeder in New Orleans whoes company was aptly named Swampland reptiles. He had my PB on breeding loan to breed to his whitesided brooks. he sent me back some of the babies (normal 2x het- or so we thought)and I ended up holding onto only a lone female. So when she matured I did not know what to breed her so I threw one of my orginal Jellies in with her. I thought all i would get is PB and Jellies. Instead i got a whitesided and a pewter along with PB, Jellies and axanthic. The Jelly had no axanthic or WS in her. So we don't know how this was possible. It was not supposed to happen. And we assumed the Pewter was a PB x axanthic double homo. But later breeding to reproduce a PB x axanthic double homo proved to a quite different looking animal.

Today some of us who worked this line believe the pewter to be a codom result that someow involves the WS trait and IS a WS trait but showing different characteristics. In other words NO Whitesides markings.

Thanks for that Rainer. I will keep you posted next year on the breeding outcome.
