You have to be ready

It is so important in this hobby to be prepared for what may happen. If you do not have a generator like me you have to do some extra things to be prepared for power outages. I always keep heat packs on hand if they start to get old use them for shipping and keep some of the new ones for an emergancy. I also have incubators that can be plugged into a car that saved me three clutches last year when I didnt have power for a week. This week I lost power due to Sandy from 12:30 on monday until 6:30 yesterday evning without the loss of an animal. I taped a heat pack to each tub changed them when I needed to and all was fine I has not seen a sign of R.I. in anything yet and I hope I dont but at the very least I have a chance to save a sick snake rather than a dead one. I also did not feed on saturday because of the risk of not having power. Just some points to think about to keep your animals safe during these types of events. I hope all effected by Sandy humans and animals alike are safe and doing well.

Last October we had that storm that knocked out power in CT. I was only down for 23 hours, but I put boiling water in stainless steel water bottles and put all my females in one tub, all my males in another. I put the bottles inside thick wool socks and put them in the tubs. Worked for me...except all the snakes decided that was the time to poop. Haha.
I am going to stock up on heat packs and do that instead.

I was without power for 6 days here in Jersey. I had my fireplace going around the clock & pots of boiling water.
On the 3rd day I was able to find a 2000 watt propane portable
generator. The best $400 I ever spent. Vet bill can run more than that. Now I have peace of mind, that my collection is safe.
