if it's real bamboo - most of what people are buying/selling nowadays in "lucky" bamboo. straight or twisted stalks in water with pebbles... is that what you have? that is a big NO-NO, i learned that when i wanted to stick one in my cham's cage and asked around here. the real name is Dracaena and i believe it's toxic. you can look up more info on any plant/reptile site.

Ive seen both but I didnt know they were different species.

Whats the species name for SAFE bamboo?

or Dendrocalamus, Gigantochloa, or a number of different species. Check with your local nursery on which type would suit you best.
You don't want dracaena!
