Axanthic vs. Anerythristic: revisited?

mrand Nov 04, 2012 08:53 AM

hi all,

i understand what these two terms mean and what most people think they should mean. however, i'm looking for evidence in bullsnakes that suggests there are actually yellow lacking mutants that are separate from red lacking mutants. the hatchlings that i've seen under the two different names look the same to me. i'm guessing that the differences may come about as adults, so if anyone has adults that fall into each of these two categories, i would love to see them.

it's clear that either red or yellow can be amplified, but is there evidence that each pigment can be turned off separately?

thanks for any insight!

matt

here's an adult female axanthic bull & one of her babies which was sired by a kankakee back in '06. i think like w/ most bulls, the colors do become cleaner w/ age.
