Destructive Rodents

Seeves1982 Nov 04, 2012 08:05 PM

I keep my rat colony in rat breeder tubs from Big Apple Herp. I've never had a problem, but recently I have a group of rats that are chewing away at the tub. They are always well fed and never left without food. I can't figure out why they are doing it and I can't figure out exactly which one it is to get rid of it. Does anyone have any suggestions how how I could make a better rat proof container. I really like the top grating which makes feeding and watering great. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Feed them off.
Don't tolerate chewing or biting. Simple as that.
Replace with non-chewing rats.

We have put in the bottoms of the containers the chicken wire mesh cut to size. So far no more problems.

I like this idea. I would need it on the sides as well though. How did you attach it?

We didnt attach them at all just buried them under the bedding. I assume you can use rivets with some washers after you tap some holes in the bins.

around the top edge you can put a strip of metal meash I think its called hardware tape and I think it may be Cape Fear Constrictors that has a video on you tube of their rat room that shows it in the tubs they use to prevent chew outs.
