Too cold?

marcp Nov 06, 2012 07:29 PM

I have someone wanting me to ship an adult boa to AK. My top priority is the snakes safe arrival and not being chilled so as to affect her future health. According to SYR I should not ship when temps are below 40F. It is below 30F in his city and will only get colder. He is insisting that everyone ships as long as they put heat packs in box. Does Delta ship snakes and would they be any safer? Any advice is appreciated!

I don't ship to Alaska at this time of year!!!

Heat packs are only so good. Temps below freezing can slow down and stop the chemical reaction. Yes I can and have fudged a few degrees but not several degrees below freezing. If the buyer insists, than maybe that's not the kind of person you want your snake with anyways.

I shipped a baby Boa up to Alaska probably 5-6 weeks ago now. I did it before my customer paid
because of this situation with the cold temps.

I wanted to get that Boa up there to him before the real cool temps kicked in.

This guy was a returning customer who I explicitly trust , . . . . . .
otherwise I'd have never shipped without payment first.

My point being I don't think I would ship to Alaska this time of year now at this point . . . . . . ..
its just too far away and too cold !
