What's up with Ro--nt Pro...?

mbrawley Nov 28, 2012 01:32 AM

Anyone else notice their price hike? Has almost tripled for pinkies (.35 ea now). I'm assuming it's because of their setback earlier this year. Anyone know if this is a permanent or temp change?

Thanks in advance.

Oh yeah, btw...take care everyone, and stay safe.

I think it was last April the CDC closed down Rodent Pros mouse production due to a disease outbreak that humans could catch. So for several months the Pro had no mice at all. Then in late summer they began producing mice again but it took awhile to have the large inventory they used to have. So they have probably raised the price to cover the loss from having to destroy their entire mouse production last spring, and start over with all new stock in decontaminated facilities.

I have a friend who buys mice from them, and I gave him my big stash of frozen pinks to tide him over as I raise my own mice and always have pinks. This big pinky shortage came at a bad time in late summer when he was starting his baby snakes.

Yeah that's what I kind of thought may have been the reason for it. I guess my biggest question/concern is when and if their prices will return to "normal". I don't know anyone who would pay what their charging, plus the shipping. LoL.

Thanks for the reply Bob. Hope all is well with you bud.

Layne Labs has them cheaper. But still expensive.
This is a supply and demand thing, sort of like gasoline. We all know how that goes most of the time! LOL!

I used to get chicks from rodent pro for 12 cents each for over 10 yars and they tripled their prices on those last summer and now i am done with them. I moved over to a much cheaper supplier.

But still i can't find chicks at 12 cents a piece anywhere.
