females slugging out

snakemansam Nov 29, 2012 11:54 AM

Hey guys...I am looking for some input. A friend of mine has been breeding ball pythons since 1998, and has good success with up until 3 years ago. His females all started laying slugs or the eggs would go bad in the incubator. These are all mature females that have laid viable clutches in the past. Until that point he was producing over 50 clutches per year. Then the females started laying slugs. His ambient temps in the room are good, a steady 78 at 4 feet off the floor, and his rack temps are good. He raises his own feeders and uses reverse osmosis in the house for water treatment..
Anybody else ever heard of or experienced this? He thought it was bad luck the first year, but its started again this year and we cant put a finger on it. Anything else we should look at? He cant think of anything he's changed at the point where it started.

? not enough time with males and or breeding them at the wrong time of year...

females do not normally hold sperm...MY opinion....they can smell males...their bodies know they have access to males...so their bodies do not voluntarilly hold sperm for long periods of time...

they do not have to nor do they think of this...their bodies just do it....

MY thought and opinions...

....all I got...bad timing....????

....or bad thermometer in incubator...but that would not explain duds....

Reverse Osmose.

Honestly, I am not sure that's really good. They could be missing some minerals in there. That would help them out.

But there could be way other things that's going on. Temperature and humidity is the first cause.

He is cooling the adults or not ?
