A good kind of feeding question...

HairForce1 May 27, 2003 02:13 PM

I have two almost-yearlings; an anery and a snow. The anery is ~27" long and the snow is ~24" long. They are both eating two good-sized weanlings per weekly feeding. They look thick in girth to me but not obese (as if I'd know).

Am I overfeeding these piglets? All this after struggling 6 months ago to get them to eat at all!

Thanks in advance,

HF1

That is a lot of food for those snakes IMO.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, most people feed their snakes way too much. It's been proven (can't remember where I heard/read it though) that powerfeeding snakes is not healthy for them and will shorten their lifespan.

My '02 snakes (who are on average 25 inches long) are only getting fed 1 fuzzy every 7 days.

My '01, is still getting fed 1 hopper every 10-12 days, even though he now should be eating 1 weanling per feeding. (I just don't want to waste the hoppers.)

If I were you, I'd cut back on those feedings.

I'll cut the piggies back to 1 weanling per week.

I come from the Boid world, where the accepted practice is "Give 'em all they'll take!".

Thanks again.
