I am new to hogs...I have a hatchling that eats frozen thawed pinkies, from any direction. How do adult hognose snakes eat live mice? They're not constrictors, their fangs are rear-placed?...just asking.

No such thing as a dumb question when it comes to the care of reptiles.

Generally, keepers do not feed their adult hognose snakes live mice. In the wild, hogs can and do eat rodents but not all that often. They eat amphibians, eggs, lizards, and the occational rodent.

Being rear fanged does not mean they can not easily sink their fangs into their prey. Their fangs are situated righ below the eye. They can easily engage their fangs. I do not know how effective their mild venom is on rodents. Never tried to feed any of my adult live mice. There are very few occation that I ever had to feed live to hatchlings. When a hatchling eats a live pinky, they just gulp it down.
