Best way to take beardie on vacation w/me?

djfuente Oct 06, 2003 05:01 PM

First off, I want to thank everyone who gave me advice when Giblet was a little sick late last week and this weekend. It seemed like she had the beginnings of a URI and she was able to get over it on her own once I raised the temps a little, so thanks.
Anyways, I will be spending the weekend at the beach because it is fall break and I will have no one around to take care of Giblet for me while I'm gone, so she will have to come along. She's about 10" now and I was thinking I could buy a rubbermaid bin that's about 20g and take that long with her heat lamp. It will be just for 3days so I'm pretty sure I can get away with no UVB especially if I take her outside every now and then. So is this an ok idea? or big mistake?

your dragon will do fine in a rubbermaid bin and a basking light for a 3 day trip, be sure she has good temps, a nice bright enclosure and keep her supplemented well with the calcium with D3, if she gets outside for more then an hour that day i would cut back on the D3, dont want to over do it. i take my guys with me for thanksgiving 8 hours away, i just put them in travel bags made for cats with partitions inside of them, i fit 2 to a bag, and put a towel in each section, they sleep the whole way burried in their towels. i pile rubbermaids one on top of the other with all their lights etc inside of them then just set them up when i get there, really is much less of a pain then it sounds

how do you handle the long drive without leaving them to burn up in the car while you take a break?

i take them out of the car with me i only leave them alone in the car in the evening, its cool and no chance of over heating. they are in travel bags, very easy to carry and you cant see in to them so no one even sees im carrying reptiles around.

I've been looking for something like this myself.

I like the size of the carrieres, but what happens when your beardie gets to be an adult? My beardie is only 18 weeks old but already 16" long. Neither the small nor the medium bag is long enough for her, or is it? I wonder if I'd just need the space to be big enough for the body or if I'd need to include the length of the tale....hmmm...

I think the carriers are absolutely adorable, just may want to think about the length.
