For the bird lovers (OT photos)

It was a beautiful day here in Wisconsin yesterday. 50 degrees in December, I'd take that anyday of the week. So, it was too damn nice to stay home and watch the Packers, I decided to take a walk in the woods instead. I came upon a spot with very mature trees and a melanistic grey squirrel caught my eye. I trailed it for a little bit in an failed effort to get a close up shot. At one point I heard something above me in the tree tops, looked up and spotted this:

Boy was I surprised! Only the second owl I've ever seen in the wild.

That's a sweet Barred Owl. It was in the low 60s in the Greater Cleveland Area and a nice day to be out. Spring Peepers were calling and some other frogs were out too.

And just to stay off topic, here's a Vegas-area Great Horned Owl that I saw last year.

I love owls. Reminded me of this picture I took about 50 years ago when I was a kid. This owl lived in a knot-hole in an old walnut tree on our property. I climbed up on a ladder and took his picture.
