Shipping to Alaska?

jsschrei Dec 05, 2012 12:58 AM

Are there any restrictions on shipping to Alaska? Has anyone on here shipped to Alaska? Any problems? Any specifics?

Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance,
Jessica

I spoke with Tim Bailey about this as I know he's done it. He said there are no restrictions on anything being shipped to Alaska, just a bit more expensive. Also there's only about a 2 month window that you can ship there because its so cold for most of the year.

I have shipped to Alaska many times.
Not sure what restrictions you are asking about...I have never had any issues. There are no restrictions for Ball Pythons.

Perhaps you could be more specific about the type of restrictions you are concerned about. Example: Venomous Restrictions, Size Restrictions or Species Restrictions etc.

Please feel welcome to contact me if you have questions.
Provided the shipment is packed correctly, for the existing conditions, it should be fine. I prefer to make my own styrene lined boxes, as I can utilize thicker "blue" styrene and make it fit nice and tight.
Also, do not skimp on the heat packs. Select quality 40 hr heat packs. This will help you to avoid catastrophe if there is a delay during transit. And keep an eye on the projected temps for the specific destination zip code PRIOR to shipping the package. Then you will have a better idea of how to properly pack the box.

Here is a great exercise for anyone who is concerned about shipping in cold/hot weather.
Pack a box with a temperature data logger inside the box and one outside the box. Subject the box to various temperature settings for specified time frames. Study the temperature histories recorded on the data loggers.
This will help you to learn to pack a box for nearly any conditions.
You can usually find fairly cheap (yet accurate) data loggers online or at a decent electronics store.
With a little experimentation...you will be surprised what you may learn. It's kinda fun to go "MAD SCIENTIST" too. lol.

My wife really wanted me to get an Axanthic girl last year so I found one I really liked on kingsnake(Spotnose Axanthic). The person shipping hand wrote the address label. My zipcode begins with the number "4". The FedEx guy thought it was a "9" and our girl ended up in Anchorage, Alaska.

Called FedEx, spoke with a person there in Alaska who had the package in hand. Unfortunately the next shipment out wasn't until the next day so our girl stayed overnight in the FedEx office in Anchorage.

Next day she arrived in Michigan in perfect health. I normally don't name my snakes but in this case I thought I would make an exception.

"Palin" is doing great.
