Bad Airborne Express service and red tape

mayday Oct 06, 2003 05:23 PM

Sent out a package on 9/15/03 that was guaranteed to arrive before noon the next day. I paid in advance. It arrived after 4:00 PM. When we called Airborne to inquire about the shipment they said "Well we don't ship animals anyway as our charter does not allow it" and then " we couldn't read the address on the box". Of course, right after this the delivery person rolls up to where the delivery was supposed to go having no trouble reading the address.
I called customer service to request a refund since the shipment did not make the guaranteed time. The customer service rep says they will return my check in 7 to 10 days.
Today I GET A BILL FROM AIRBORNE FOR THAT SAME SHIPMENT!!!!!!
After 3 phone calls (one of which I was disconnected on) I finally get someone who can actually do something. He says that refunds take 30 days to process!
At least I am no longer expected to send them another payment for that stupid shipment!
Won't use them again that's for sure.

The shipment i posted about a few weeks ago when airborne messed up a shipment and it was stuck all weekend in shipping, and i called them and they said they would cover the costs, well today i got the bill for it, still have to call them, some of those airborne people have no idea what they are doing, i like the company but sometimes the service sucks

I've used AE for over 2 years and I have finally reached my limit with their mistakes and non-customer centric business. I have had 5 late shipments due to their mistakes and all have been investigated with no refund. They seem to make it my responsibility to fight for the refund and I have finally given up. So, UPS gets my business for the time being. I've had better service from them although their prices are higher.

Just got off the phone with the Airborne Rep for about the 5th time this month.
Here's what I've found...

If you don't pay the bill within 30 days of billing there is a $5 late fee assessed and for every 30 days after. You are responsible wherther you get a bill or no.

If the shipment is late and you sent it next day service you have 15 days to dispute the charge and it is supposed to be in writing but they will take the claim over the phone.

If you send something to a party and the receiving party is billed for the shipment the receiving party is responsible for the charge and any disputes.

That's what I've learned so far but I'm sure there are more rules.

Hello All,
Once again, i've had fantastic service with Air-Borne X-press!
THEY ARE NOT PAYING ME TO WRITE THIS! I'm fortunate to live
very close(ten minutes) to Boeing Field here in Seattle. Their
distribution facility is right there. I hand deliver my boxes
half an hour before the flight leaves. If I have something coming in, I go there & pick it up, myself. UPS has told me
that they won't ship animals ANYMORE? Fed-Ex is out. USPS is out. Who else(besides Delta Dash) are we going to ship with ?

I finally resolved all my problems with them. I got a wakeup call at 7am PST this morning(ungodly hour for me) from a very nice rep that told me that all the charges will be removed for all my late shipments and I was reminded to, again, try and dispute any future disputes within 15 days of the shipment... I'm happy.

Yeah, for turtle shipments I've had good experience, for non-animal shipments, that's another story. Maybe it's how I label the turtle boxes. I also drop off my boxes in-person at the airport Airborne office. I just shipped two adopted sulcata to a sanctuary in TX two weeks ago, one box weighed 17 pounds.

The USPS will still ship lizards. I asked about three weeks ago.
