Seeves1982 Dec 09, 2012 05:21 PM

Just out of curiosity. How many of you clean and feed on the same day?

I'll usually feed one day, then clean the next. Ball Pythons will eat way better in dirty cages.

I usually feed then clean. If I have a dirty cage while feeding I present the food then clean while they "kill" their prey.

I clean on Thursdays and Saturdays and feed on Sundays...some stress out when you clean them and then dont want to eat..I also spot clean through out the week.
A lot has to do with the size of your collection.

I clean everyday I am home. But I do a big cleanup on mondays and the feed them.

I never wanted to feed in dirty cages. I dont want to take risk of any bacteries or anything like that.

It would be bad to eat in the bathroom after [bleep]ting in it.

actually...healthy snakes' feces won't kill it....one ""cure"" for a sick snake ,with a gut problem...is to rub the food item in a healthy snake's feces, then feed it to the sick snake....
I never did it...but think ,pro-biotics in the healthy fecal matter.....(most of us would use Flagyl metronidozol and kill ALL the bacterias...good and bad....this is why it takes awhile before you actually feed after treating snakes....need time to build up good bacteria))...(or use pro-biotics afterwards)...

.....anyways....some balls won't eat if you bother them, look at them, walk by them, think of them, even in another room...you know how touchy some are.....
I threw in live rodents, all around...then cleaned up afterwards, after they had their fill....also spot clean the large lumps always.....

As you may know, all reptiles have salmonela. You can never get totally rid of it.

A non-clean snake have a higher risk of contamination with salmonela compare to a cleaned cages.

I clean all my snakes in the day and feed them late evening/ before night and I never had a problem with them non-eating.

If you keep cleaning daily, you shouldn't have much problem with feeding in proper clean cage.

Actually, I know I will have poop to clean every 4-5 days after feeding. The only other exception are sheds and water bowl returned.

I know opossums probably cannot catch rabies
I know they say 80% of male opossums die the first time they mate
I know a lady that had salmonella, and a boa and a python died after biting her...!LOL True
I did not know ALL snakes had salmonella........

you think maybe I should have washed my hands more while eating and cleaning at the same time?... huh?....(mice too)...

ok....I didn't know/ don't know about salmonella....really?...

I know all animals have bacterias....gram negative and or positive I do not know how many nor what types....

cool...
