Any ideas...crystal king pin???

robpirk Dec 11, 2012 03:58 PM

This guy came from a lesser bee to a pinstripe. First two pics are currently at 450g and third pic is post shed as a baby. You can't see it in the pics but he has a pinkish hue up the sides...also, as you can see really dark eyes. Needless to say, we don't know exactly what he is, but he has a bit of a crystal look to him. Any ideas or opinions...

Thanks.....RP

I'd like to see Ralph's Pinstripe Platinum post shed. This one could be a Pinstripe Platinum, if its not a Crystal considering most of the Lesser Crystals are white. Pretty fantastic looking animal nonetheless...

Yeah, another breeder with experience with crystals and plattys mentioned the same thing. Considering the breeding, it's more likely a platty than a crystal...the female pin dam looks pretty normal. I think we'll try breeding her this season to a different lesser combo male and see what happens. Thanks for the input, Luke!

The breeding was Lesserbee x Pinstripe. I was thinking it had Pastel in it too until I saw what produced it.

Yeah, definitely no pastel in there. The parents are just normal looking lesser bee and pinstripe. He is really light yellow though and gets more color with each shed.

We've talked to several people and consensus is that our pinstripe female is a het platty and this guy is a platty king pin. Hope we can put him to work in a few months. Thanks for the opinions!

Lucky SOB. Haha.

I do like reading stories about genes popping up in unsuspecting places.

Ha...lucky, yes! Now we get to think about starting a new project. Guess it's time to sell off some stuff to create some rack space...
