BP breeding questions

herpin1579 Oct 06, 2003 06:36 PM

I have individual bp's in the past but have never bred them. I plan on getting a pair of 100% albino hets at the tinley park show this weekend and I had a few questions.

1. At what age do bp's usually reach sexual maturity?

2. How many eggs can I expect from a female?

3. What are some good sites about breeding bp's?

Thanks
Mike

Well here are answers to your questions. Ball Pythons will usually reach sexually maturity between 18-36 months. Many males will readily breed at 18 months, but few females will. Weigth is very important to breeding and most males are 600-1200 grams at 18 months of age. Females however should be about 1500 grams before breeding. This will usually come at about 24-36 months of age. As for eggs, a small clutch is 3 or 4 and a large clutch would be 10 or more. I would say average is somewhere around 6. As for good sites on breeding, I really like Ralph Davis' breeding recipe, and he has alot of other good info on the site. A link to the recipe will be below.
Good luck with breeding, and have fun in Chicago!
