Spider Balls

Patness Oct 06, 2003 07:02 PM

Hello,
I was just wondering how many different Breeders have are currently working with the spider morph? I was also wondering about how much they are going for? I think the Bumble Bee (spider x pastel) and the Killer Bee (spider x super pastel) morphs are quickly becoming one of my favorites.
Thanks
Pat

Hello,

There are quite a few of us working with Spiders! Spiders are FANTASTIC animals... they feed and grow unlike any other Ball Pythons that we have ever worked with.

Our male was hatched in the beginning of June and is now nearing 500 grams!! This is just unreal, we have not been stuffing him with tons of food, just treating him like every other Ball Python in our collection!

I agree that the designer Spider morphs are among the finest of any Ball Pythons that I have seen. The Killer Bee, Bumble Bee, Hypo Spider & Spinner are my current top 4 FAVS!

Currently the Spider market is still up at around $17-19K for males and $15-17K for females. Due to their Dominant genetics they will naturally drop in price a bit quicker than Recessive genes but I think these killer designer morphs will certainly help sustain the pricing longer.

In time... everyone needs a SPIDER!!

Thanks,
-----

"$15-17K for females."

The realistic price for females is closer to $11k-.5k at this time. There was a ad on KS about a month ago selling 03 females with an asking price of $12,500. I did contact the seller and 1 was sold the same day.

I believe this to be fact because I know the seller personally.

"$11k-.5k at this time." was supposed to read $11k-$15.5.

I think the best bet is to stay with a breeder you can trust when buying animals such as the Spiders.

Below is a pic of the "Spider" I was offered for $11,000.

Please tell me what you think of it.

After 7 emails from members here, I thought I would post and let everyone know that the animal pictured is no Spider Ball.
I know this.
I wanted to let you all see what kind of Spider could be acquired for $11k. A FAKE ONE!!!
I thought it would be funny to post the pic so others could see how dishonest/uneducated some people in this trade are.

I think that if one wanted an animal of this type, it should be purchased from the people that are most familiar with Spiders.

Below is a direct quote from the selles email to me.

"The spider is a 2003 animal hatched out in March and 500gm /-. It came directly from Gahana sent in as a high dollar morph (like the pieds, leucistics, albinos ect ect) Since I've had it he's added orange and white to his sides with every shed and still maintains a white belly. Since in my care it's also changed eye color, starting off not nearly black, then charcoal grey, then light grey and is now turning green above the lateral line across the face. White and pink tongue, blushing head and dotted lower lip. It's a peculiar animal for sure, he's yet to have a shed and be the same color afterwards and from what I've found from talking to spider breeders and reading spider info pages this is common and there are those few that hatch out stunning.

I looked at the picture you posted earlier and I thought it didn't look like a Spider to me, but I didn't want to start any trouble.

That is a good point you bring up to deal with reputable breeders when making such a large investment. This brings me to another question. Do most breeders provide papers or is there someway to register a snake like you would a dog?

Al-G Oct 07, 2003 08:56 PM

ALL trustworthy breeders should give you whatever paperwork you feel you need. I have dealt with some breeders that provide papers with any Ball, even if it is normal.

My thinking on the Spider thing is this.I too have a Spider male and he has been for the last few days, and i dont see him stopping anytime soon. I pay a bit more for mine than they are now as Mine is an 02. I too think that they prices are coming down and will continue,BUT with all the designer morphs being produced with them they will still comand a higher price. There is still so much to be done with them. The surface has just been scratched with spiders. It is my belief that spiders should only be sold in pairs in the next few years, to help with the selling of the females. There are plenty of people to take males but not to many that are interested in females, and thats how Plan on selling mine IF I AM LUCKY enough to produce some. If any of you out there that have SPiders agrees with me on this I would love to hear from you on it. Sorry to ramble And I am sure I make no sense, its only 7 am.
Thanks for Reading
