Difference between HYPO vs SUPER HYPO

jeff schofield Jan 23, 2013 05:37 PM

Im sure this topic has been covered before. How do you tell the difference in adult boas? I heard eye color, any links to answers or can you post pics of differences here? Thanks in advance!

The only way to be sure (apart from knowing it was produced by breeding a super x super) is by breeding it to a non hypo, and producing all hypos.

Pretty sure there are some for this morph. Anyone??

The only positive way is to breed. Their are signs of Supers based on extra clean, very little black, extra reduction of pattern -- but in the end , it's still a only good guess. There have been very clean/colorful non-supers , and also some pretty dirty looking Supers.

Agreed, I have produced litters with supers and hypos and there were clearly some that were "probable" supers, some that were very likely not supers and some in the middle that were possible. Also had a litter from a proven Super Ghost x Hypo Motley het Anery and while all the non Motleys were Supers, there was a range between them with some being clear as day and others would have me saying possible had the genetics of the parents been different.

There are two ways to know with certainty that any Boa regardless of age is a "Super Hypo".

1. If you breed a Hypo to a non-hypo, and you produce a decent sized litter of say 15 or more resulting in every single offspring being a Hypo, then you most likely have a super.

2. If you have a Hypo that was produced by a pair of Hypo parents that had been previously "PROVEN" to be "SUPERS" using the method in point # 1, then you can sure you have a "Super" even before that animal is bred.

Cleanness, brilliance of color, reduced pattern and anything else that you can list can be found on Super Hypos as well as non-super Hypos. Those things may be more likely to be observed in Supers, but there is absolutely nothing preventing non-super Hypos from having those characteristics as well.

Oh, and yes there are many many proven "Super Hypos" out there and have been for years.

Still, proving is the only way.
