Browsing through some old photo's of kings I once kept. This a Jefferson county Ky nigra.

Catawba county N.C. eastern.

Tift county Ga eastern.

Just a few of the snakes I should never parted with. I'll bet most of us have had a few like that lol!

Nice Phil. I really like the nigra, probably because I have kept so many Ek's but never a black king. Might need to change that!! LOL.. Pretty cool how the GA animals (at least many I have seen photos of) do not have the chain pattern on the sides. I lost an eastern last year that was one of the most speckled I have seen. (for a MD King anyway). I see that NC animal has some speckling between the upper bands. I did not see many in MD with the speckled pattern. Easterns were the first snake I really "loved" and got me very into snakes at a young age. Such a great disposition. Are the black kings similiar it that respect?

"IN that respect". Jeeeez

Thanks Joe. The personality of black kings varies somewhat. Most calm down nicely over time but the females in particular tend to musk when handled. This too goes away after a few months usually. Some are very calm and relaxed from the onset and a few never really calm down. Most are in between. Flighty and nervous at first but calming down eventually. Captive bred black kings have similar dispositions to other members of the getula complex.

Thanks Ross. I haven't seen those photos for years and really missed them once I did.

I'm really digging that first one. Here's a Black King that I found at Carter Caves (KY) a couple of years ago.

Nice king Tim! I'll bet that snake cleaned up quite a bit after a shed. Northeastern KY is one place in the state that I have spent very little time. Need to explore there one day.
