Happy Pink Valentine's Day!

Rextiles Feb 14, 2013 04:34 PM

Last night I saw that my Superconda x Double het Pink Pastel/Axanthic eggs had started to pip, both normal colored Anacondas. Then this morning I woke up to this beautiful sight!

Even though you can only see the head showing it's a Pink Pastel, it's actually a Pink Pastel Anaconda (which is also possible het Axanthic). This was totally unexpected even though I was told that Twix, the Superconda mother, was a possible het Pink Pastel. Considering that I've only seen Brent produce a single Pink Pastel Anaconda years ago despite all of the Anacondas and Supercondas he's produced and sold from that specific line, I figured that our chance of actually having a het Pink Pastel Superconda were slim to none. Well, I was gladly proven wrong and Twix is now a 100% het Pink Pastel Superconda!

What a wonderful Valentine's Day surprise for us!

Here's a pic of the first Anaconda possible double het Pink Pastel/Axanthic that hatched out. It's got neat/weird little bow-ties for patterns.

3 eggs left to hatch, will I get lucky again?

I'll post more pictures once it's out of the egg.

Here's where we stand today...2 eggs have hatched, 3 have pipped with one egg left. Out of those 5, 4 are Normal Anacondas and just the one Pink Pastel. Even though the Pink was the 3rd to pip, it's probably going to be the last one out of the egg, you know, just to make me suffer from anticipation!

Congrats Troy! A Pink Superconda was always a dream of mine and you are more than on your way. Is it a boy?!?! Also, did that last egg pip yet?

The other Anacondas are 66% Het Pink and 50% Het anery then?

Congrats Troy!

Thank you so much Jeremy!

A Pink Superconda was always a dream of mine and you are more than on your way.

Ever since Brent produced the first Pink Anaconda, I too was excited to see a Pink Superconda which to this day has yet to happen. I personally think that Pink Supers will look way nicer than the Amel Supers and, sadly, the Toffee Supers which to be honest was quite disappointed in how they turned out.

Is it a boy?!?!

I believe it to be a male from what I saw of the tail but it was late and I didn't want to man-handle him too much just coming out of the egg, so I'll get a better idea hopefully in a few days after he's shed and moving around more.

Also, did that last egg pip yet?

As of this morning it did and it's another Pink Anaconda! I really hit the odds, especially considering that I went into this project as a long term project not knowing that Twix was het PPA. That just makes this whole thing unbelievable to me still.

The other Anacondas are 66% Het Pink and 50% Het anery then?

You are exactly correct with that assessment. My plan with this project was just to produce Anacondas that were just 50% het PPA and 50% het Axanthic hoping to one day prove any of them out. But yeah, now the PPA odds have increased on each individual which I totally spaced out on, wow, that sweetens the deal even further! Thanks for bringing that up!

Thanks again Jeremy, I know you have always paid close attention to some of my projects and it is very rewarding and fun to be able to share these things with all of you here.

I know it! That Pink Conda Brent hatched was awesome, but the super will be the best super in hogs IMO. There is no way that a solid pink hog will be disappointing!

I hope you hit a pair, that's what it sounds like! Even that male Pink Conda to the Super Het Pink female (TWIX) will mean a 1/4 chance to hit a Pink Superconda!

1/4 Conda Het Pink
1/4 Super Het Pink
1/4 Pink Conda
1/4 Pink Super!!!

Congrats man, keep us posted!!!

Yep, the odds seem to be in my favor of producing a Super Pink in a year or two depending on how well the male does for me, now the race is on on who does it first.

Twix is, without a doubt, going to be a crucial factor in several of my projects over the next few years, she's been an awesome snake in many ways and we love her tremendously.

I look forward to seeing what else is produced this year by everybody else. Every year seems to have a few surprises here and there and I'm always amazed at what projects people are working on.

Speaking of which, what have you been working on Jeremy? You've gotta be keeping secrets from the rest of us as you've been kinda quiet as of late. I know you have to have something up your sleeve!

I love how the first inch of pattern resembles a superconda. Just a little extra to drive you crazy, right?

Actually, the first wave of Anacondas that Brent sold to all of us also had a patternless neck which caused many to believe that a patternless neck was one of several markers to determine an Anaconda. Over the years and after many outcrossed breedings, the patternless neck marker has been disproven as a lot of "low key" (meaning more pattern than less pattern) Anacondas do in fact have patterned necks. Being that I got Twix directly from Brent, it actually doesn't surprise me that my Pink Anacondas exhibit this trait but I believe with further breedings that this "trait" could disappear and patterns will eventually emerge in F2s and later generations. But yes, it drives me crazy anyways because now it makes me want to produce a Super so bad just knowing that it's going to be an awesome addition to the Superconda lineage!!!

Thanks Lindsay!

This is a PERFECT example of why breeding snakes can be so much fun!

In my opinion, clutches like this are equivalent to the X-mas morning feeling when I was a kid!!!

If you don't already have one, a male pink would be a nice addition to your collection

You must be on cloud 9!

Always good to hear from you Rusty!

This is a PERFECT example of why breeding snakes can be so much fun!

I couldn't agree more. I admit, there are plenty of times when my projects don't prove out or they go sour and I get discouraged from time to time but then something like this happens and I'm invigorated all over again.

In my opinion, clutches like this are equivalent to the X-mas morning feeling when I was a kid!!!

Actually, our first morphs were a pair of Pinks but both eventually died. The female never did well from the beginning so naturally I never bred her but the male did well for us for several years before dying. It is his one of his progeny that is the father of this clutch which also one of my rare double het Pink Pastel & Axanthics, so that project, which I've been working on for 4 years now is starting to fall into place, just not how I expected!

You must be on cloud 9!

Words cannot describe how excited we are. Karma is smiling down upon us!

Thanks again Rusty. Please keep in touch!

I hope I have half that luck when I breed my het axanthics.

I hope so too! We need more people producing base morphs other than just Amels and Anacondas.

Me personally, I love Axanthics just as much as I love Pink Pastels. I've just never had any luck producing any even though I had a pair of visuals because my male never seemed interested in breeding. So I just did the next best thing and bred my Pink Pastel male to my Axanthic female and started a project that apparently is going to take a lot longer than I had planned. But that's ok, some projects are worth it when you finally hit pay dirt!

The last Pink Anaconda has fully emerged from it's comfy little egg...

Based on my cursory examination, it looks like a female. So with any luck, that should mean that I have both a male and a female! And she's a chunky little thing too weighing in at 7 grams. Actually, the entire clutch all weighed 7 grams with the exception of the Pink Anaconda male who weighed a respectable 5 grams. I couldn't be happier with how this clutch turned out, not just because of the Pinks, but because they all appear to be healthy chunky and active little worms!

Thanks again to everybody for all of the kind words and support as well as all of the wonderful and enlightening emails I've received! It's all of you that make this hobby what it is really meant to be, an enjoyable bond that brings both people and reptiles together so that we can learn not just from the animals themselves but from each other. Thank you!
