Help, crested gecko question!?

mike7934 Oct 06, 2003 09:57 PM

Hi, i just got a crested gecko on sunday. I think it's a juvenille it's about 2inches, and the tail is about 2 inches. I had a couple questions. One, i have him in a critter keeper cage with jungle earth as the substrate is this ok? Two, any good tips on handling and tamming?, Three, in his cage there is this plastic tree trunk for him to hide in, but it takes up a little bit less than half of the cage, then i have some vines in there aslo next to the tree trunk. Is this to cluttered? The cage stays around 75 degrees. I have a heating pad on the one side and it keeps the cage at 75, and the humidity 80-90. Is this all ok? Sorry if this is long but i just want to keep him healthy and happy. Thanks alot for your help.

Mike. Any other information will be helpful.

Everything sounds fine. If it seems to cluttered, take out the vines. The trunk would be fine alone. If the substate is coconut husk it is fine. As far as handling it, I find not trying to restrain them is best(i.e., grab them). Let them walk from hand to hand and get used to it. I assume you already know about feeding and supplementing.
good luck
