Need some help please??

I have a small collection of ball pythons and like most I breed my own rats. I keep about 15 adults at times and a bunch of feeders. I use pine pellets I clean every 4-5 days and I keep them at my job in a small room closed and a bathroom fan on 24-7 every once in a while my wife will come to my place and her allergies just go bananas? Now I'm trying to figure out could it be my rats that are In a room and with a fan on? Or can it be the pine pellets? I also have a carpeted office not sure if it can be the carpet? Anyone suffer from keeping rats or anyone have any clue or proof that's its the rats or the pine? Thank you for any help or advice.

Aaaah, I think it's bad paint on the walls.... Seriously dude, it's actually the urine! If you're keeping them in a confined space like that, you need to clean at least every other day!

ahhh!! i did say i have a fan on 24-7 dude.

....fan isn't big enough....for you yes...for her no...

get a new wife that isn't allergic to rats?...best option....pick one that likes to clean snake cages and makes alot of money $$$ ...oh...and is thin,(unless you like cute fat chicks) sexy, fun, and and,,,and, and fun...!Ha

wait.....that's not gonna happen...you said..."I do" ....duh...

...just keep her out of office/work areas is all you can do....

......(send me the new wife)...

Obviously, that's not working!

neither is your input!

You have rats confined in a room that you clean once a week, your wife's allergies go nuts when she goes there, and you think it's the carpet? Good luck w/that!

I'm not sure that is why I posted . I have also heard
Could be the pine pellets!!

Rodent allergies are very common and have led lots of reptile folks to just buy feeders rather than keep, clean and breed them. Costs more money but I'm betting that the trade off is worth it.

You could try switching substrate (cedar?) or switch to raising ASF's.

My wife has allergies and asthma and she is allergic to rats. The rats cause a typical, runny nose and sneezing response. The pine pellets we use are very aromatic. If I go to the feed store and pick up 6 bags of pine pellets, she can't ride in the car without the fumes bothering her asthma, but that is not a typical runny eyes and nose allergic reaction. Your rat room is probably full of a fine pine dust / rat residues, regardless of the fan. I doubt you will see any change by switching to another rodent bedding, but one thing you can try is bring home some pine pellets straight out of a new bag and see if that bothers her. I doubt it will. She is most likely allergic to your rats.
