Crested Gecko

khalliaar Oct 06, 2003 10:59 PM

I know someone who has had a crested gecko for about 1 and a half now. She is very friendly, in good health, warm enough ext. The only problems she is having is that the gecko will not eat baby food out of a dish, only off of fingers. Also, she won't eat any mealworms and the girl who owns her can't really feed her crickets. I was wondering how to get her to eat mealworms? The not eating the baby food from a dish is probably stress because she was eating it from a dish in the store.
Thanks

Why is feeding crickets a problem??? Just gradually introduce the mealworms into the geckos feeding time and it should soon get a taste for them. You can either keep them in a dish and leave in the tank, or if your gecko prefers.. takes them out of your hand! Having a cresty feed out of your hand is not a bad thing!!

With the babyfood, it could be the dish is in the 'wrong' place for the gecko. My gold dust day geckos were like that. Place it in different parts of the tank, and only move it again (apart from cleaning it) if its obviously being ignored. If you keep moving it around the tank, it will cause stress. But i don't think the gecko is stressed in the first place. He wouldn't eat anything.

Its not the best idea to feed mealworms to cresteds, unless they just molted and are soft. Try getting the crested gecko diet. Its almost like baby food, and they love it! How big are the crikcets when your friend feeds it? It shouldnt be bigger than the width of its head.

First feeding the crickets is a problem because she likes bugs and its a new apartment and if anyone found a cricket that got out she could get in a lot of trouble. Also the crested won't even eat the baby food from a dish when she's held out of the cage with the dish in front of her and shes hungry. And with the mealies, she has tried hand feeding them to her and leaving some in the cage and it hasn't eaten any. Even after not feeding her the baby food and crickets for a day.
